What Data We Collect

None. ShadowBlock does not collect any personal data, browsing history, or usage analytics.

What Data Is Stored

ShadowBlock stores the following data locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API:

• Your blocking preferences (which filter lists are enabled)
• Custom rules you create
• Per-site toggle settings (sites you've whitelisted)
• Aggregate blocking statistics (total ads blocked — no URLs or page content)

This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to any server.

Network Requests

ShadowBlock makes zero network requests. All filter lists are bundled with the extension. There are no remote servers, no telemetry endpoints, no update pings.

Permissions Explained

• declarativeNetRequest: Used to block ad and tracker network requests before they load. This is Chrome's recommended API for content blockers.
• storage: Saves your preferences and custom rules locally.
• activeTab: Lets the popup show stats for the current tab.
• scripting: Injects cosmetic filters to hide ad elements on pages.
• contextMenus: Adds right-click options for blocking elements.
• alarms: Used for internal scheduling (e.g., periodic stat updates).
• host_permissions (all URLs): Required to block ads and apply cosmetic filters on all websites. No data is read or collected from these pages.

Third Parties

ShadowBlock does not share data with any third parties because there is no data to share. We do not use analytics services, advertising networks, or crash reporting tools.

Children's Privacy

ShadowBlock does not collect data from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above. Given that our policy is "we collect nothing," changes are unlikely.
